Music plays a vital role in the life of our school, and that commitment was proudly on display this December when Music Teacher Mark Wurzelbacher, composer and music director, along with students Blithe Matthews (7th grade, Fan) and Eris Haun (4th grade, Lizzie), completed a successful run of A Christmas Carol at the Overture Center. Performance is deeply woven into our curriculum, giving students meaningful opportunities to apply their learning beyond the classroom and to grow as confident, expressive artists.
You can catch a glimpse of the production – and hear from Blithe herself – in the Children’s Theater of Madison video preview of the show.
Being selected to participate in a professional production of this caliber is a significant honor for our students, and it reflects both their dedication and the high level of preparation they receive at school. Continued collaboration with a committed and inspiring music teacher allows students to refine their craft while experiencing the discipline, teamwork, and joy that come with live performance.
It is truly especially rewarding to see our students standing out in the wider community, sharing their talents, representing our school, and contributing to the cultural life of Madison. Moments like these highlight the lasting impact of a strong arts education and the importance of nurturing creativity at every grade level.
