We’re thrilled to share some remarkable news about a former EAGLE student.

EAGLE Alum Bryant Yu earned Gold Medal honors at the 2026 European Physics Olympiad (EuPhO). And that’s not even the best part. Bryant was also named Best in Theory and the Absolute Winner of EuPhO 2026, recognizing the single highest overall score among all participants from 41 countries.

Bryant was only at EAGLE for his 8th grade year, but he left a lasting impression on our community. It’s a proud moment for us to see a student who once walked our halls go on to represent the United States on an international stage, and not just compete, but stand out among the best young physicists in the world.

Bryant competed alongside four other members of the U.S. Physics Team at the Olympiad, held June 12–16, in Gothenburg, Sweden, where Raymond Feng and Owen Zhou also earned Gold, Yijia Xuan took Silver, and Jason Liu received an Honorable Mention.

]]> 16934 EAGLE Powers Up a Win https://eagleschool.org/2026/06/eagle-earns-first-place-in-statewide-energy-competition/ Thu, 25 Jun 2026 15:30:44 +0000 https://eagleschool.org/?p=16924 We’re proud to share some exciting news: EAGLE School took first place in the Fall 2025 Renew Our Schools Competition, earning over $2,000 for future energy efficiency projects! As a first-time participant in this statewide challenge, EAGLE’s fourth grade made an impressive mark alongside seven other Wisconsin schools.

With science teacher Tim Tynan at the helm, the timing was perfect. His students were already deep into their Microclimate Unit, studying how environmental factors affect temperature around our building. The competition expanded that inquiry inward, inviting students to examine the school itself as a kind of microclimate and explore how energy moves through it.

Over the six-week competition, fourth graders learned to read watts, calculate kilowatt-hours, and measure electricity using tools like the Kill A Watt™ monitor and our school’s eGauge system. They discovered how much energy everyday devices consume and how “phantom power” (electricity drawn even when devices are off) quietly adds up. In one memorable experiment, students turned off hallway lights for 15 minutes and watched energy use drop in real time on the eGauge. They found that with light from our skylights, the school could operate safely with far fewer lights on.

The experience clearly left a mark. Fourth grader Neils reflected, “Before, I wasn’t really aware of energy. I thought it wasn’t that important. Now I know how much it does and how important it really is.” His classmate Kira added that she used to think energy “just powered lights and computers.” Now she knows it powers almost everything.

EAGLE School mathematicians recently earned top honors at the Wisconsin Mega Math Meet, hosted by the University of Wisconsin–Madison Math Department. Competing against schools from across central and southern Wisconsin, EAGLE took 1st place in the Small School Division, an impressive achievement that reflects months of preparation, teamwork, and problem-solving skill.

Math Meet is a challenging academic competition for 5th and 6th grade students. Teams first compete at regional meets, where students tackle four timed individual events along with a collaborative team challenge. Only the top teams advance to the statewide Mega Math Meet at UW–Madison.

At the Mega Meet, students faced a new set of demanding mathematical puzzles and logic-based challenges created and graded by UW graduate students. In addition to EAGLE’s first-place team finish, EAGLE was also home to the highest-scoring individual student in the entire event, an extraordinary accomplishment in a field of talented young mathematicians.
