EAGLE’s 6th–8th grade students spent last weekend putting their curiosity, teamwork, and problem-solving skills to the test at the 2026 Wisconsin State Science Olympiad for Middle School (Division B). Held on April 18 at Medford Area High School, the competition brought together schools from across the state for a full day of science challenges, beginning at 8:00 a.m. and lasting until 6:30 p.m.

Students competed in 24 different science-based events, ranging from “study events” to “build events.” In study events, students prepared detailed notes, practiced extensively, and completed rigorous tests competing against other schools. In build events, teams designed and constructed devices according to strict event guidelines, then tested their creations for performance and precision.

One standout build event was Mission Possible, where teams design, build, test, and document a Rube Goldberg®-like device that completes required start and final actions through a series of specific steps. EAGLE students Evie Gill and Arunava Prabhakaran earned a gold medal in this event, outperforming every middle school team in Wisconsin and taking 1st place in the state.

EAGLE’s hard work paid off in an exciting way: the team earned 1st place in the Small Schools Division and 2nd place overall in the state, a nice step up from last year’s 2nd and 3rd place finishes. Even more impressively, EAGLE students captured a total of 13 gold medals in the Small Schools category, demonstrating the depth of talent and preparation across the entire team. With 30 students competing across varsity and junior varsity levels, this achievement reflects months of dedication and practice from students who consistently pushed themselves to improve.

This success would not have been possible without the leadership of faculty advisors Ellie Tumarkin and Jenny Klepper, whose guidance helped students prepare for every challenge. Many parents also played an important role by mentoring during practices and supporting the team throughout competition day. The strong showing at this year’s Science Olympiad is a proud moment for the entire EAGLE community and a wonderful example of what students can accomplish through hard work, collaboration, and perseverance.

EAGLE School has officially launched the search for its next director, marking an important moment of transition for the school community. As the current director prepares to step down, the school is taking a thoughtful and forward-looking approach, one that both honors past leadership and focuses on identifying the right person to guide EAGLE into its next chapter.

The search process has been designed to be inclusive and community-driven. Input will be gathered from a wide range of constituent groups, including the School Board, faculty and staff, students, families, and the broader EAGLE community. To support this work, the school has partnered with an experienced facilitator, Debbie Millon and Educators Collaborative, ensuring that the process is structured, transparent, and grounded in best practices for independent school leadership searches.

In addition to outlining the search process, the school has shared a message from the current director and details about the timeline leading up to the appointment of a new leader. This comprehensive approach reflects EAGLE School’s commitment to collaboration, strong relationships, and a clear vision for the future: values that will guide the selection of its next director.

Families, community members, and prospective candidates are encouraged to learn more about the process and follow updates by visiting the Director Search page.

Under the Paris sky, a group of twelve 7th and 8th grade students embarked on a meaningful cultural and academic exchange with École Georges Gusdorf, a private school in Paris dedicated to gifted and talented learners. This partnership was intentionally created by EAGLE French teacher Andrew Irving, who sought a school environment that would truly understand and challenge students with similar learning profiles. From the moment of arrival, École Georges Gusdorf proved to be an exceptional host, thoughtfully pairing students with host families, opening their classrooms, and fostering rich exchanges between their faculty and EAGLE educators, including Dee Jay Redders (LASSD).

In the weeks leading up to the trip, students prepared not only for travel, but for challenge. They discussed what it would mean to step outside their comfort zones with courage and kindness. And once in Paris, they did exactly that. The differences were real: longer class periods, rapid, authentic French spoken by teachers, unfamiliar schedules, lengthy daily commutes, and sometimes meals that seemed unfamiliar at best. Yet through it all, our students showed resilience and adaptability, discovering that, alongside these differences, there were many shared values and experiences.

At its core, École Georges Gusdorf is a place where gifted students are both challenged and understood, where intellectual curiosity is celebrated, and where a strong sense of community is intentionally cultivated. These same values resonated deeply with our students and teachers, making the exchange feel not just like a visit, but like a meaningful connection between kindred learning environments.

And, of course, there was joy. While the experience demanded independence and courage, it was also filled with laughter, discovery, and unforgettable moments. Traveling across the Atlantic without their families, living with new host families, and navigating a different school system is no small feat for 13- and 14-year-olds. But our students embraced it fully. They represented EAGLE with thoughtfulness, openness, and enthusiasm, and returned home not only with improved language skills, but with broadened perspectives, more independence, and lasting memories.
