Origami Mondays are back and will run every Monday in February, from 3:30 to 5:00 pm in the art room. 3/4s – 7/8s may attend one session or all for a fee of $20.00 per session. Paper will be provided, but feel free to bring your own, especially if you have some favorites. All sessions will include two different base instructions with easy models illustrating the bases, and at least two featured models, with diagrams and computer tutorials available. Most finished models will be attached to greeting cards or have wire loops for hanging as decorations. In session 4, a large Michael LaFosse-designed butterfly will be taught.

On Wednesday, Feb. 12, Intermediate through 7/8 students will perform in a benefit concert to raise money for the victims of Typhoon Haiyan, which struck the Philippines in November. The concert will begin at 7:00 pm in the EAGLE gym. No admission fee will be charged, but donations, which will be routed through PAMANA (Philippine-American Association of Madison & Neighboring Areas), will be gratefully accepted. Please save the date and join us as we sing songs of hope and strength.
It is time to raise our voices in joyous song again this semester! Registration forms for Pitch Perfect (EAGLE Chorale) were emailed to the parents of last year’s participants earlier this month and are due back by Monday, Sept. 9. Rehearsals will begin on Wed., Sept. 18, 3:20 to 4:30 pm, in the Music Room (11). Pitch Perfect is directed by Darlene Harper, our upper level music teacher, and is open to 4/5s–7/8s.New students are always welcome and should contact Darlene (email@example.com) to sign up.
Band – The Band Program will continue under the direction of Mrs. Christine Eckel. Small group lessons will meet on Mondays and Wednesdays. Flight (Advanced) Band will rehearse on Monday afternoons from 3:20 to 4:00 pm. Beginning Band will meet on Mondays during recess from 11:50 am to 12:20 pm. The first full Flight (Advanced) Band rehearsal will take place on Monday, Sept.9. Beginning Band and lessons will begin on Monday, Sept. 16.
Strings – In its 5th year, the Strings Program, directed by EAGLE parent Melissa Gregory-Simon, continues to grow! Intermediate Strings will meet after school on Tuesdays from 3:20 to 4:00 pm each week. Beginning Strings will rehearse on Tuesdays or Thursdays during a portion of the lunch/recess period. Private and Group strings lessons for violin, viola, cello or bass will be scheduled on Tuesdays and Thursdays during QRTs. Rehearsals and lessons will begin the week of Sept. 16.
Instrument Demonstrations and Trials – On Wednesday, Sept. 4, Mrs. Eckel and Mrs. Gregory-Simon will conduct an instrument demonstration for all Junior 3/4s and any older students who are interested in joining band or strings for the first time. The demonstration will be held in the Commons from 8:30 to 9:20 am. Instrument trials for strings and mouthpiece trials for band will take place throughout that day. An additional string instrument demonstration/trial for younger students, ages 5-8, will be scheduled at a later date.
Parent Meeting – An informational meeting for the parents of Beginning Band students, new band students, and new strings students is scheduled for Monday evening, Sept. 9, at 7:00 pm in the Music Room (Rm.11). If you cannot make the meeting but would like to inquire about lessons, please contact the respective directors. An Invitation from Pitch Perfect
Darlene and the members of Pitch Perfect would like to invite you to their performance, “A Cabaret Evening,” on Wednesday, May 22, at 6:00 pm, in the Commons. The students have worked hard on some musical theater pieces and would love to have their friends come and enjoy the show. It is also a good way for students to see this musical group in action and to think about joining the fun next year.
Come play with clay! Use your imagination to build and sculpt something wonderful! Monday after-school sessions, offered by Mrs. Finster, will include tutorials on clay slab-building, coil-building, and glazing techniques. Explore building, cutting, and rolling clay in the EAGLE art room. Classes, which are open to 3/4s-7/8s, will be held on Mar. 11 and 18, as well as April 15, 22, and 29. Fee: $10.00 per hour. After-School Clay Studio Registration
In December, art teacher Rebecca Finster offered three after-school origami classes for 3/4 – 7/8 students. The young artists used a variety of imported and duo paper to create their masterpieces which included holiday wreaths, two-part modular ornaments, racing penguins, and songbirds.

Band/Strings Concert: EAGLE band students, under the direction of Christine Eckel, and our strings students, under the direction of Melissa Gregory-Simon, will present a winter concert on Wednesday, Dec. 12, at 6:30 pm in the gym. Students should be at school by 6:10 pm.
Choral Concert: Under the direction of Darlene Harper, our Jr. 4/5 – 7/8 students along with members of Pitch Perfect, will present a holiday concert on Wednesday, December 19, at 6:30 pm in the gym. Students should arrive by 6:15 pm.
National Junior Art Honor Society Induction
This past Monday at a special ceremony in the art room, ten EAGLE eighth graders were inducted into the National Junior Art Honor Society. At the beginning of the ceremony, one student read the NJAHS Elements of Art poem while another lit red, yellow, and blue candles. Each student was presented with a red carnation, and the Co-Presidents led the members in the recitation of the NJAHS pledge in which they promised to “help create a more beautiful world” through the use of their talents in art. The induction ceremony was followed by a reception with cake and juice. Congratulations to these newest members of the National Junior Art Honor Society!
Penn R., who graduated from EAGLE in 2010, will be playing the role of Dr. Sanderson in Edgewood High School’s production of Harvey. The play will run tonight and throughout the weekend with Thursday, Friday, and Saturday performances at 7:00 pm and a Sunday matinee at 2:00 pm.
